Historie

Hrad Zbiroh byl v držení Lucemburků od roku 1333 do roku 1437. Podstatnou část z této doby však sloužil jako zástava rodu Rožmberků. Zbiroh se dostává do rukou Lucemburků roku 1333, když jej 17ti letý kralevic a markrabě moravský Karel IV. vykupuje po svém návratu z Francie a Itálie. Pro jeho výhodnou polohu u zemské cesty z Prahy do Bavor (pozdější císařské cesty Via Carolina) jej využívá při svých diplomatických cestách. Na hradě také několikrát pobýval se svou první manželkou Blankou z Valois. Roku 1336 Karlův otec, český král Jan Lucemburský hrad zastavil u rodu Rožmberků, aby splatil své válečné dluhy. Rožmberkové se postarali o povýšení Zbiroha na město a do znaku mu věnovali rodovou pětilistou růži. V té době prochází Zbiroh bouřlivým obdobím husitských válek, při kterém byl hrad obléhán a ostřelován. Zpět Lucemburkům se hrad vrací roku 1431, kdy jej ze zástavy vykupuje Karlův syn, římský císař Zikmund Lucemburský. Na jeho pozvání na Zbirohu pobývá papežský legát Aeneas Silvius Piccolomini, pozdější slavný papež Pius II.
